Newsletter 5 March 2013

5 March 2013 Term 1 Week 6 13/6
Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

3 Way Conferences
Thanks to all the parents who made the effort to attend the 3 way goal setting conferences. It is great that we are all on the same page in regards goal setting. Turnout was 92% of school families - that is pretty fantastic!

Recent Survey
The results of the short survey which was given out at the conferences showed people have very positive views about our reporting system and the quality of communication between home and school. Some
suggestions included:
  • holding interviews every now and then without the children involved;
  • allowing time at the end of the year for parents to discuss the end of year reports.
The Trustees have asked me to look at ways we can have a meet-the-teacher social gathering early on in the year. We used to do this in the past but turnout was poor so it was canned.

Next year we might start with a meet the teacher in week 2 or 3, then goal setting week 5. Goal setting could change to be ten minutes 3 way, then five minutes just the teacher and the parents.

18th March - Teachers Paid Union Meeting
The teachers union, the NZEI, has called a paid union meeting for 2pm 18th March. The Board have decided to close the school from 1.30pm that day to ensure all the teachers are able to attend to discuss their collective agreement. The pay talks between the teachers and the government have stalled and the teachers are meeting to decide what to do next. Children can be collected from 12.30pm on the day. Anyone unable to collect their child should let the school know and I will supervise those children from 1.30-3pm.

National Standards
The 2012 National Standards data gathering is completed and we will publish results over the next few newsletters. Full data and the 2012 Annual Report are held at the school office and are available for parents to view.
