Some Reminders and Requests
18th March - Teachers Paid Union Meeting
Please don’t forget that school closes next Monday at 1.30pm. The teachers are off to a paid union meeting at which they will discuss their collective agreement. The principals’ collective was recently finalised and it contains some positive elements and will probably be ratified by principals.

The teachers’ negotiations have stalled. I have seen the issues which are causing teachers to be concerned. One of them is that the Secretary for Education can vary the terms of the agreement at any time! This makes a mockery of a collective agreement and is a real threat to teachers’ conditions. Let’s hope this can be sorted.

Some Requests:
  • Our Toshiba netbooks are getting old and some are starting to fail. If we have any parent who has the skills and time to check these out with a view to repairing them, could that parent let us know?
  • Anyone with an unused child’s car seat suitable for the community vans? Drop off at the office thanks.
Head Lice
Nits are out and about at the moment. Please check your child’s hair on a regular basis. Prevention methods include: regular brushing with a fine toothed comb, tying up hair, using a tea tree based shampoo, leaving conditioner in the hair.
If children are found to have a head lice infection while they are at school, we ask parents to take their child home until the lice are gone.

Kia Kaha tatou Katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

Dental School Visits
Dental school visits continue this Friday. Parents will have been contacted by the Dental School if your child is scheduled to go. Please ensure that your child has a completed consent form if required otherwise he/she will not be able to go. Completed consent forms may be left at the office over the next few days.
Walk n Wheel to School Week

Walk n Wheel Week
Walk n Wheel Week was great success with 83% of children travelling to school by walking, biking or scootering. This was a big increase as the week before only 28% of children came to school in any way other than travelling by car. This meant less cars and less chaos at the school gate before and after school!! Well done to the parents who supported their children. Teachers noticed that children were fresher and ready to start learning for the day when they came on a bike, scooter or on shank’s pony!
