Jaffa Race Sausage Sizzle
The PTA will be putting on another sausage sizzle for the Jaffa Race this year. Race day is Friday July 29th 11am – 1pm. We will also be providing car parking in the school grounds for a small fee. Tell your friends and come along and enjoy this great day!

Next PTA Meeting
The next meeting will be held Tuesday August 9th at 3.15pm. All are welcome to attend and new members are always keenly sought.

Snow/Wintry Conditions
The main reason for school closure or late starts is the condition of the roads and the safety issue of travelling on them. While many children could walk to school it is not often the case for teachers if they do not live near by. The decision for school closure is made by a group of school principals who live in the hill suburbs. A 10am start will be made in consultation with the local police or taxis.

On especially wintery mornings check the radio stations/cancellation line for any school closure or delayed start notices. Alternatively ring school as a message will be left on the answer phone if there is a delayed start.

If you do choose to keep your child at home please ring and leave a message on the school answer phone. Local radio stations most commonly used for cancellations are Newstalk ZB 1044AM, 4XO 1206AM, Radio Dunedin 1305AM, Classic Hits 89FM. The cancellation line number is 474 8426. Please take a note of these details.

Charter Development
The Trustees have been working on re-writing the school charter for the last wee while. This work is now complete and the charter was presented to the Ministry of Education local manager last week. Copies of the charter are available at the school.

Education Review Office Visit
ERO have sent us a copy of the ‘unconfirmed report’ following their recent review. The Board have an opportunity to correct any errors of fact contained therein before the report is finalised. Some excerpts follow: -
“A key feature of this school is its immersion in the local community.”
“The school is seen as belonging to and working with the local community.”
“Students benefit from the strong links that the school has with the local College of Education and Ministry of Education.”
“Having a second “teacher” in the room makes it easier for students to learn in smaller groups and receive individual attention.”
“The school has a warm and supportive culture”.
"The school’s 2010 achievement data shows that the majority of students are achieving at or above National Standards expectations in numeracy and the school’s expectations for reading and writing. Those students who are not achieving as well as expected are closely monitored and receive extra support through specific programmes.”

Welcome to Jonathan Rhodes Kindergarten
The Jonathan Rhodes children are relocating to our school hall in the next week or so as their kindergarten is to be rebuilt. They will occupy the hall till the end of the year. We are very happy to accommodate our colleagues and the children from Jonathan Rhodes - the school has had a close and special relationship with the kindy for many years.

School Car Park
We will suggest to the parents of the kindergarten that they drop off and collect their children from our car park in front of the community buildings. Therefore we are hoping our school parents will avoid using the school car park during kindy drop-off and pick up times.

Chicken Pox
This highly contagious disease is making its mark across Dunedin. NEV Normal is no exception. If your child contacts chicken pox it is recommended you keep your child away from school until 5 days from the day the spots first appear.

Kia Kaha tatou Katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

Please ensure that your child is dressed warmly on these cold winter days. Children should wear a jacket, hat and gloves to and from school.
