Newsletter 3 December 2012

3 December 2012 Term 4 Week 8 12/38

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Kia ora koutou katoa

Education Outside the Classroom
Last week the Y6 children had a week of activities outside the normal classroom programme including; orienteering, bush walks, archery and bowling.

Some schools have school camps at this time of year for this age group. We do not run camps mainly because the children get their fair share of camping and adventure outings at intermediate and secondary school.

College Teachers
The staffroom is much quieter today as the college teachers have finished their practicum. The school has a statutory requirement to take college teachers. We see our role as a normal school as a way to positively influence the teachers of tomorrow. I would like to thank the usual classroom teachers, the children, other staff and the parents for supporting these young teacher apprentices as they learn their craft. It is important work which takes huge commitment from us all.

Not long now till Santa!

Kia kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie
Principal

Rainbow Class
This Thursday 6 December is the last Rainbow Class for the year. This is our transition to school class for 4 year olds held in R11 from 1.15-2.45pm.

Assembly
Assembly will be held in the hall on Friday at 2.20pm. It will be led by R13 with items by R8.

Wheels Day
This Friday lunchtime is the turn of the senior classes to ride bikes, scooters and skateboards. Children who bring their bikes will need to wear a helmet. It is recommended that children wear a helmet when riding their scooters or skateboards.

Return of School Books
Please ensure all school books - library, journal and readers are returned to school as soon as possible. The library will be closing and all books need to be returned for our annual stock take.

Sports Tops
We are still missing a number of our sports tops. Please have a good look around home and school bags and return to school.

Final Prize Giving Assembly
The final assembly for the year will be held on Thursday 13 December at 11am to 12.30pm. We will be farewelling our Year 6 pupils and recognising contributions children have made during the year. The assembly will be held in the school hall. Following the assembly the children will be treated to a barbecue lunch provided by NZCU South.

Talent Quest
On the final day of term Friday 14 December, a talent quest will be held. It is open to all students, individuals and groups to perform in the areas of dance, drama, comedy, singing, or instrument. Please
discuss this with your child/ren and think about areas in which they might perform. Children are allowed to go home from 12.30pm on the last day.

Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal
We have had a fantastic response already! Our school is collecting gifts which will be distributed by the Salvation Army to families who are unable to afford Christmas gifts. Gifts may be left under the wishing tree in the school office.

School Activity Donation
Please ensure your child’s school activity donation is paid by the end of next week. Statements will be sent home giving outstanding balances. If you wish to pay by internet transfer the school’s account number is 03 1726 0055515 00.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Caitlin O’Brien who achieved Higher Distinction in her Grade 2 singing exam recently. Caitlin has been invited to sing at the High Achievers performance this week. Well Done!

Satine & Clarice Aydon recently completed two ballet exams through Dunedin School of Ballet & Dance, Primary in Dance Class Award & the Rosette Pre Grade Two exam. Well done both of you for passing with a high achievement.
