Newsletter 20 July 2010

20 July 2010 Term 3 Week 1 10/21
Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

During the last week of last term I attended the NZ Principals’ Federation Conference in Queenstown.

The news reported that the 600 or so delegates expressed nearly unanimous opposition to the Government’s National Standards policy.

The Minister of Education spoke to the delegates and told everyone that the policy was here to stay and we needed to just get on with implementing it.

Meanwhile back at NEV Normal School the teachers were ‘trialling’ how the standards could be put into place. They have prepared ‘draft’ reports using the standards.

The senior staff will analyse these draft reports and report their findings to the Board of Trustees. The Board will then decide whether these reports will add value to our current reporting system and act accordingly.

At this time of year we encourage parents to make a time to catch up with your child’s teacher to discuss progress and achievement.

Ma te Atua e mannaaki tiaki tatau katoa.
