Newsletter 1 November 2011

1 November 2011 Term 4 Week 2

Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

Bring and Buy
Children will be asked today to bring a few unwanted but tidy toys and books for a bring and buy to be held on Friday. We are fundraising for children born with heart defects - we have a few children in our school who fit into this category.

Toys can be given to the classroom teachers. The bring and buy will be held on Friday lunchtime.

No Hat No Play
The school has a well established policy about wearing hats during the 1st and 4th terms. Hats must be brimmed ‘bucket’ style hats or the legionnaires type cap with a flap at the back. Caps, beanies and visors are not acceptable.

Advice on Xbox Type Games
Recently the senior teachers had reason to speak with some senior boys who had been using unusually sophisticated and inappropriate language to describe games they play.

In the meeting it transpired that some children are learning these terms through playing Xbox games like HALO.

These games have at least a PG censors rating - some are R16 and R18. Given our children are all under 12 years old it seems a questionable practice to allow children unsupervised access to such material.

Kia Kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie
