Newsletter 19 March 2013

19 March 2013    Term 1    Week 8 13/8

Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

My Visit to the Dental School
Last week I accompanied the children who went off to the dental school for their appointments. I wanted to see for myself how well they are supervised and whether we can suggest any changes to improve the service.

On the whole I was pleased with the level of care the children received. The children are accompanied by a trainee therapist at all times.

During the process there were two well experienced therapists readily available for guidance and I saw them being well used.

My only concern is that I sensed most of the children were quite anxious prior to and during their sessions—this is understandable. It is a foreign environment for them; they are surrounded by strangers. And the procedure is somewhat intimate and can be painful.

I strongly urge parents to try and accompany their child to especially the first appointment.

Next Week
Next Monday the 25th March is a public holiday. The school will be closed to celebrate Otago Anniversary. Then Friday 29th March is Good Friday, so the school will be closed that day too, plus the subsequent Monday 1st April and Tuesday 2nd April for Easter.

Road Patrol
The road patrollers and their supervisors ask parents to be aware of the protocol for crossing. 1st whistle extends the safety arms into the road and the 2nd whistle is the signal for people to cross.

Please wait for the 2nd whistle as it is only sounded once patrollers are certain it is safe to cross and no vehicle is bearing down on the crossing.

Kia Kaha tatou Katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.
