Newsletter 5 June 2012

5 June 2012       Term 2 Week 7               12/16

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Kia ora koutou katoa

Toys and Collectable Cards at School
School policy is that children should not bring toys, cards or valuable items to school unless at the express invitation of the classroom teacher.

We have been fairly relaxed about this rule in recent times. Unfortunately this has led to conflict so hence -forth we will enforce this rule.

From tomorrow, Wednesday 6 June, toys, collectable cards and other such items brought to school will be confiscated and handed to parents at the earliest opportunity.

iPad Trial
The school has 36 netbooks, 14 laptops and 12 desktops. We are trialling iPads in some classes and with some groups. We currently have 4 iPads and hope to purchase more when we have the funds to do so.

Did You Know
That we employ a retired teacher, Mrs Di Robertson, for 1 day a week to teach social skills to our children?

That we currently have the principal from recently closed Forbury School, Mrs Janice Tofia, teaching reading recovery at school?

That we have Mr Innes McColl, a retired youth worker, working alongside a few of our challenging children?

Kia kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie
Principal

A Sense of Belonging
Children need to know that they are important. When they feel accepted and loved by important people in their lives they feel comfortable, safe and secure, and open to communication. If children feel respected and secure within a family, they will find it easier to make friendships outside the family. To help children develop that sense of belonging, you can:

Help them build valuable family, friends and relationships outside of their family.

Encourage pride in their family’s ethnic background and heritage.

Keep reminders of family events and family history around the home (photograph albums, home videos, etc).

Provide a special time for each child or young person. Encourage children to talk about their day.

The Public Health Nurse for our school is:
Catherine Moir, Phone 4769748.
