Newsletter 18 June 2012

18 June 2012    Term 2    Week 9     12/18

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Kia ora koutou katoa

PB4L
The school is in the 3rd year of piloting the Ministry of Education sponsored Positive Behaviour for Learning programme.

This programme is based on a successful American model for behaviour improvement. Essentially it aims to standardise expectations across the school, simplify rules and outline clear consequences for negative behaviour.

Throughout the process we have developed our behaviour expectations:

Safety, Respect, Responsibility

Last term we decided to apply the same template to academic expectations and have come up with a simplified mantra for learning:

Ready, Thinking, Winning

We will be doing some work with the children over the next months around these themes: we want them to be ready to learn, to engage their brains fully and want to be successful. I attach the academic expectations so you may reinforce them at home.

Cellphones
A few weeks ago we reluctantly banned bringing toys and games and such like from home because of the conflict they were causing.

The teachers have asked me to remind parents that if children bring mobile phones to school, these must be handed in to the office at the start of school and collected after 3pm. The same goes for mp3 players and other valuable items.

Kia kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie
Principal

Wheels Days
This Friday lunchtime is the turn of the senior classes to ride their bikes, scooters, skateboards etc at school. Children who bring their bikes will need to wear a helmet. It is recommended that children wear a helmet when riding their scooters or skateboards.

Assembly
Assembly will be held in the hall this Friday at 2.20pm. It will be led by R11 with items by Rooms 5 & 8. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.

Wonky Donkey Show
The whole school enjoyed Craig Smith’s Wonky Donkey performance last Wednesday. Mr Andrew and Lucas had cameo roles as monkeys!

Sports Results

The senior teams played last Tuesday. The Gold team drew 5 goals each against Macandrew Bay and the Bronze team won 11 goals to 8 against St Francis Xavier.
