Newsletter 30 April 2012

30 April 2012   Term 2 Week 2     12/11

Learning Power Tip of the Week

Lots of sleep + good healthy food = smart learning!

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Kia ora koutou katoa

Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who have been helping with the swimming programme. Thanks also to the PTA for securing some funding to offset the costs of the swimming bus and tuition.

We take swimming lessons seriously. On average 105 Kiwis die from drowning each year. We want our children to learn to be safe in the water.

Our programme obviously works for those who see it through from an early age - Jill Clarke tests the
children at the beginning of each block and invariably the at risk children are children who did not start their schooling at NEV Normal.

So, again, thanks to the helpers who ensure the children are quickly dried and dressed after their
lessons.
Kia kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie
Principal

Welcome
Welcome to Gabriel who has started in R11, Brianna who has started in R10 and Allen who has started in R2. We welcome their families to our school community.

Cross Country
Correction to the results of the cross country. Finn Abey came 2nd in the Y2 Boys race. Well done Finn!

T2 Swimming Block
Swimming continues all this week. Children need to bring togs, towels and goggles to school each day. Please ensure your child’s school activity donation has been paid for Term 2 at least as this donation helps to pay for the bus and the cost of tuition.

Rainbow Class
Our transition to school class for 4 year olds which is taken by our new entrant teacher, Mrs Cleland, is being held this Thursday from 1.15 to 2.45pm in R11. If you have a 4 year old who would like to join this class please contact Mrs Cleland or the office.

Assembly
Assembly will be held in the hall this Friday at 2.20pm. It will be led by R8 with items by Rooms 2 & 11. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.

Wheels Days
This Friday lunchtime is the turn of the senior classes to ride their bikes, scooters, skateboards etc. Children who bring their bikes will need to wear a helmet. It is recommended that children wear a helmet when riding their scooters or skateboards.

Scholastic Book Club
Leaflets for Issue 3 were sent home at the end of last week. Orders with money need to be into the office by Friday 11 May. If paying by cheque please make cheque payable to Scholastic NZ.

Elgregoe Performance
Elgregoe the magician returns to NEV Normal on Wednesday for a whole school performance. His show teaches key values that educate students about how to treat others and has a strong emphasis on anti bullying. Using tricks, puppets, ventriloquism, music, song, stories and amazing props (including live birds), the important messages are conveyed to the children in a fun, fast-paced show. The cost of the show is $4.00 which is paid out of the school activity donation. If you have not paid your child’s donation up to the end of Term 2 at least please send $4.00 to school with your child or pay at the school office.

Smart Food School Lunches

Cold lunches are available on Mondays & Thursdays

The lunches consist of 2 sandwiches/pizza bun, fruit, a cookie or muffin and a dessert. The cost is $3.50 or $4.50 for a larger lunch with two extra sandwiches.
