Newsletter 12 June 2013

12 June 2013      Term 2 Week 6                13/17

Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

During our first ‘new board’ meeting of the year I presented to the new trustees with some new information about pupil behaviour. One of the trustees wanted to know what constituted moderate to serious misbehaviour at our school.

I responded that as we gather more and morebehaviour data and deal with the trends this data shows up, our threshold for moderate to serious poor behaviour lowers. What was moderate two years ago is more serious now as we deal with the most serious stuff and nearly eliminate it.

More thorough data collection informs decisions we make about behaviour and we get a better view of what is really happening in the playground and in the classroom. As a result we have got pretty good systems in the playground for improving behaviour.

Our focus this year is gathering behaviour data about classroom behaviour. No doubt this process will improve children’s behaviour in class.

Mrs Staynes and I have developed a behaviour challenge game for use at home which is available free from Mrs Staynes.

Kia Kaha tatou Katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

Elgregoe Performance
Elgregoe the magician returns to NEV Normal tomorrow for a whole school performance. His show teaches key values that educate children about how to treat others and has a strong emphasis on anti bullying. Using tricks, puppets, ventriloquism, music, song, stories and amazing props (including live birds), the important messages are conveyed to the children in a fun, fast-paced show. The cost of the show is $4.00 which is paid out of the school activity donation. If you have not paid your child’s donation up to the end of Term 2 at least please send $4.00 to school with your child or pay at the school office.

Wheels Days
This Friday lunchtime is the turn of the junior classes to ride their bikes, scooters, skateboards etc at school. Children who bring their bikes will need to wear a helmet. It is recommended that children wear a helmet when riding their scooters or skateboards.

The show goes for an hour so we may be a bit late back to school .The cost of the show is $5 per child, and the travel cost is $2 per child. Please pay $7.00 to the office if you have not yet paid your activity donation up to the end of T2. Thank you.
