Newsletter 22 November 2011

22 November 2011 Term 4 Week 5

Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

Some More Updates
After School Care:
I have heard on the grapevine that Valley Oscar is closing. The Board has been negotiating with a local provider to set up an after school care programme on our site. More on this as it comes to hand, but rest assured we will have a service in place by the start of the new school year.

Classes for 2012:
From time to time we rearrange the roles and responsibilities at school to reflect the changing nature of our school roll. Class lists are being prepared now for next year and these will be published before the end of the term.

National Standards and Our School Charter:
The Board of Trustees submitted its Charter to the Ministry of Education mid way through this year. The Charter has been updated by the Board and the school staff to align with the new national curriculum.

The targets included in the Charter do not change much from year to year: we have high expectations of our children’s progress and on the whole pupils reach the targets. Some of our targets exceed the Government’s National Standards.

The Charter presented to the local Ministry office was rejected by them as it did not have targets aligned to National Standards. They have forced us to include targets they have written for us!

Needless to say, we will continue to set high targets for our children and work hard to achieve these targets. In the meantime, our Charter has been accepted by the Ministry.

Congratulations to the college teachers whose posting finishes this week.

Kia Kaha tatou katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.
