20 June 2011 Term 2 Week 8 11/13
Dear Parents & Caregivers

Swimming Results
The Board of Trustees were pleased to review the results of the recent 8 day swimming block at its last meeting. The results are published in this newsletter. At that meeting, the Board endorsed the importance of the swimming programme and reaffirmed its commitment to ensure it continues. The Board thank the PTA for organising funding which subsidises the programme, the volunteer parents who support the teachers and Jill Clarke and her team for their enthusiasm to increase our children’s skills.

Recent ODT Coverage of “Small Schools”
Some of you will have read an article about roll numbers in Dunedin schools. A south Dunedin principal, Gary Tenbeth, called for further reviews of small schools in Dunedin. He argues that bigger schools are better resourced; they can field better sports teams etc. Mr Tenbeth has obviously not visited our school. I can assure our community that I have made my feelings known to Mr Tenbeth as have many of my colleagues.

We are a very well resourced school, our achievement results are enviable; our sports teams enjoy success on a regular basis (did we not thrash a larger local school only last week?!!). The point is that we are the school which serves North East Valley proudly and to a high standard; the school has done so for 160 years and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Kia Kaha tatou Katoa ki te tautoko o tatou tamariki, mokopuna hoki.

John McKenzie
Principal
