Condolences
Our thoughts and prayers go to the Stevenson family who are grieving the death of their 16 year old son, Liam who was killed in a car accident last Thursday. Liam’s brothers Nathan and Kyle attended NEV Normal and his youngest brother, Troy is in Mrs Will’s class. Expressions of sympathy and donations or parcels can be made directly to Justin and Leanne at 15 Paris Street or via the school office.

Computers in Homes
There are a few spots left on the Computers in Homes course so let Mrs Lindsay know if you are interested.

Upcoming Workshops
Maths information evening - come along and find out how you can help your child develop his/her maths skills next Wednesday 1 June at the NEV Baptist hall from 5.30pm. Bring fish and chips or some other kai, children welcome.

Hui for school families - all welcome. The ‘whanau’ of the school, those interested in promoting Te Reo me ona Tikanga, invite all school families to a Te Reo hui at the NEV Baptist Church hall on Sunday June 12 from 1-5pm. Listen to Te Reo lessons in a laid back and non threathening environment, learn some waiata, bring some kai!

Welcome
We welcome Liam and Finn who have started in R11. A warm welcome to their families to our school community.

Scholastic Book Club
Leaflets for Issue 3 have been sent home today. Order with money need to be into the office by next Wednesday 1 June. Please make cheques payable to Scholastic NZ.

Rainbow Class
Our transition to school class for 4 year olds is being held this Thursday 26 May in R11 from 1.15-2.45pm. If you have a 4 year old who would like to join this class please contact Mrs Will or the office.

Assembly
Assembly will be held in the hall this Friday at 2.20pm. Assembly will be led by R2 with items by Rooms 5 & 8.

Smart Food School Lunches
Smart Food lunches are available on Mondays and Thursdays at NEVNS. The lunch consists of two sandwiches, a piece of fruit, a home made biscuit or muffin and a jelly or milk pudding. The cost is $3, or $4 for a larger lunch with two extra
sandwiches. Orders and money need to be in to the School Office by 9am.

Parking around the School
There have been a number of complaints recently about parking and picking up especially in Longworth Street. Please do not park on the yellow lines at the entrance to school and obstruct other cars trying to turn there. Child have recently been taught road safety so please set a good example to your child by parking safety in the correct areas. Thank you.

Volunteers Needed HPP Programme
HPP (He awhiawhi tamariki ki to panui pukapuka, which translates as ‘helping children embrace reading books’) is an oral language programme in which adult volunteer tutors read to children three days a week for a ten week period.

In order for this programme to be successful we need the help of volunteers from the community to act as tutors. Tutors need to be able to commit to a ten week block of time, spending 3 half hour sessions with a child per week. There will be training
provided for anyone interested in becoming a tutor. If you are interested please contact Fiona Will at school. Thank you.

Sports results
Netball
Last week the silver Y3 and Y4 team had a nil all draw and the gold team Y5 & Y6 won 14 goals to 12 in a very exciting game. Yesterday the silver team lost 5 goals to 12. Well done to all the players.

Miniball
The lightning team played last Thursday and lost their game. Good luck for this week.

Junior School Production
The junior school show, “Willbee the Bumblebee”, will be performed on Thursday 16 June starting at 6.30pm in the NEV Baptist Church Hall.

PTA News
School Banking
If you haven’t filled in an application form and would still like to do so; there are spare forms in the office that you can fill out and either drop into the banking box in the office, or take into NZCU South. Remember banking day is WEDNESDAY!

Swimming Grant
We would like to thank the Bendigo Valley Sports & Charity Foundation for approving a grant of $2,000 to help cover the costs of Term 2’s swimming block.

Bean Bags for Room 11
Approval was given for Room 11 to buy two new bean bags for their reading corner.

Fruit and Veg. Fundraiser
By now all families should have received order forms for apples, pears and pumpkins; supplied by Peirce’s Orchard. If you haven’t got an order form yet, or, would like another one; there are spare forms in the office. $3 from the sale of each bag goes to the school. Order forms and money need to be into the office by Tuesday June 7th.

PTA Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday June 14th at 3.15pm. All are welcome to attend.

Militaires Marching Club: are currently looking for members aged 5 to 16 years old to join our established club for the 2011/12 season. No
experience is necessary, and there are teams available to suit the different age groups. Uniforms are supplied free of charge. Teams are based at the Edgar Centre. The competitive season runs from October to March (with a 7 week Christmas break). Caregivers Wanted: Anglican Family Care needs caregivers to provide short term and
respite care for children and young people 0-16 years who for a variety of reasons need time out from their home situations. Training and support are provided. Remuneration by way of a board payment. Contact Ginnie Ravell on 477 0801.

Head Lice
There has been several incidents of head lice reported recently. Please check your child’s hair and treat if necessary. If you require information on head lice ask your chemist, the public health nurse or ask for a pamphlet from the school office.

On especially wintery mornings please
remember to check radio stations/cancellation line for any school closure or delayed start notices. Alternatively ring school as a message will be left on the answer phone if there is a delayed start.

If you do choose to keep your child at home please ring and leave a message on the school answer phone. Local radio stations most commonly used for cancellations are Newstalk ZB 1044AM, 4XO 1206AM, Radio Dunedin 1305AM, Classic Hits 89FM. The cancellation line number is 474 8426.
