Newsletter 8 March 2011

8 March 2011 Term 1 Week 6 11/5

Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

Coin Trail
Thanks to all the children who participated in the fundraiser for the Red Cross on Friday. They raised $175. That money has been sent to the Red Cross. Donations of cash and canned food will still be accepted at the school office.

We had two Christchurch children enrolled last week and one yesterday. We are all keeping a close eye on them!

Early Starts
School officially opens for children at 8.30am. Parents who need to drop their child off earlier than 8.30am should arrange this in advance by speaking to the classroom teacher. If enough parents need before school care for children we will see what we can arrange. So let us know if you fit in this category.

Parent Help
Do you know how to PODCAST? We would like to try podcasting our assemblies and need help from an expert (or a very competent amateur!!). See Sara at the office if you can help.

Dogs on School Property
The grounds are used a lot after school and in the weekends. The Board welcome the school being used by the community.

There are some rules though and one is that dogs are not allowed on the property (unless they course they are performing at the school talent quest!).

Lately we have had to remove dog poo from the field and from other areas of the school. Can family members please challenge anyone who brings their dog onto the school property reminding them that this is a school for children, not dogs!

160th School Celebrations
The 160th celebration due to be held on 11th April is postponed.

The celebration was to feature the re-dedication of the refurbished school hall and other school amenities. This refurbishment is not complete and will not be ready for this day.

We will set a new day and publicise this as soon as possible.

Anyone who wishes to help organise this celebration please contact Sara at the office.

Ma te Atua e mannaaki tiaki tatau katoa.

John McKenzie

Goal setting interviews will be held tomorrow Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 March. If you do not know your interview time please check with the office for confirmation.

Walk n Wheel Week
Congratulations to all the children who participated in last week’s Walk n Wheel Week. Thanks go to all the parents and caregivers who facilitated their child/ren walking or wheeling.

Smart Food School Lunches
Smart Food lunches are available on Mondays and Thursdays at NEVNS. The lunch consists of two sandwiches, a piece of fruit, a home made biscuit or muffin and a jelly or milk pudding. The cost is $3, or $4 for a larger lunch with two
extra sandwiches. Orders and money need to be in to the School Office by 9am.

Road PatrolThere is still one vacancy on Thursday mornings. If you are able to assist with supervising the road patrollers 15-20 minutes before school please contact Mrs Staynes or the school office.

Road Safety
There as been concern over children not using the school crossing when crossing over to the west side of North Road. If your child walks to school please talk to them about road safety and using the pedestrian crossing. If you are dropping off or picking up your child please ensure that they use the crossing. Constable John Somerfield will be coming to school during weeks 8 and 9 to teach children about road safety.

Upcoming Event
The whole school cross country is to be held on Friday 18 March at 1pm. Details to follow.
