Swimming
I have heard a lot of very positive comments regarding swimming. The children are making excellent progress. Thanks to the PTA who help with the cost of the swimming block which means we are able to employ qualified instructors from the Jill Clarke Swim School. Thanks also to the parents and friends of the school who assist with drying and dressing.

Oral Health Week
Last week I told you about the ‘Lift the Lip’ dental check-up taking place. This will occur tomorrow, Wednesday from 1.30-3pm. Our dental therapist Sam and dental assistant Tina will carry out this quick routine. Please let us know by 9am tomorrow if you do not want your child to participate in the check-up or have their photo taken.

School Photos
Orders with money need to be returned to the office by tomorrow, Wednesday 20 October.

Sun Hats
Term 4 is a ‘No Hat No Play’ term. Children must have a sun hat to wear while outside. Please ensure your child’s sun hat has a brim to cover the face and neck. Caps are not acceptable. School sun hats are available at the office for $13.00.

School Swimming
School swimming continues this week until Friday 22 October (excluding Thursday 21 October). The cost of the swimming block is $25.00. This cost is included as part of the school activity donation. If your child’s activity donation has not been paid please sent $25 to school.

Assembly
Assembly will be held in the Hall this Friday at 2.20pm. It will be led by Room 11 with items by Rooms 5 & 10. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.

Labour Day Holiday
Next Monday, 25 October, school will be closed to observe Labour Day.

Smart Food School Lunches
Smart Food lunches are available on Mondays and Thursdays at NEVNS. The lunch consists of two sandwiches, a piece of fruit, a home made biscuit or muffin and a jelly or milk pudding for $3.00; larger lunch with two extra sandwiches for $4.00 Orders and money need to be in to the School Office by 9am.

School Activity Donation
Please make payment as soon as possible as this money goes towards the payment of the swimming block and other Term 4 activities. If you would like to pay by internet transfer the school bank account is 03 1726 0055515 00.

Dental Therapist
The school dental therapist, Samantha Lester and dental assistant Tina are onsite at the dental clinic to carry out the usual dental health checkups on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays this term. Their contact number is 027 284 9932.

Kids and Iodine Status Study
A number of children were invited to participate in this study. Please return consent forms to the office if you are happy for your child to take part in the study.

Scholastic Book Club
Leaflets for Issue 7 will be sent home this week. Orders with money need to be in by Friday 5 November. Please make cheques payable to Scholastic NZ.

Congratulations and well done to Meihana Schooner who has been selected for the Otago Touch Under 11 team.

Parenting Courses Term 4:
6-12 years on Wednesdays 9.30-11.30am for 6 weeks from October 27 to December 1 at the NEV Baptist church. Faciltators are Melanie McNatty and Gill Eastgate. Contact Sue on 477 3403 or email sue@cathsocialservices.org.nz

Zumba Fitness: has come to the Valley!! Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 5 to 6pm in the school hall. Wear appropriate footwear; bring a towel and a water bottle. Cost $5 per class.

Upcoming Parenting Seminars: practical and entertaining seminars for parents, presented by John and Naomi Cowan from Parents Inc. Wed 27 October: Hot Tips for Parents (0-10 years) Thurs 28 October: Hot Tips for Parenting Teenagers (10-18 years). Venue: George Street Normal School Hall. Time: 7.30-9.45pm. Cost: $15 per person ($10 manuals available on the night). Tickets available from George Street Normal School and Dunedin North Intermediate School offices, or by contacting Leith Valley Church (4679208). Bring your children to the Light Party for a fantastic time of Halloween free fun. Sunday 31st October 4pm – 6pm. Games, bouncy castles, food, disco, craft, entertainment, Parents Café. Pre-school to Year 8. $2.00 entry fee. No scary costumes please. The Light Party is run by a group of Dunedin Christian Churches as a safe, friendly, family event as an alternative to Halloween. Venue: Dunedin City New Life Church, 48 Stafford Street.

Leith Children’s Athletics Club: Training nights: Tuesdays 5.30-6.30pm at Chingford Park. Fees: competitive $50 includes training night and inter-club at the Caledonian Ground 9am-12pm; non-competitive $30 for training night only. Contact Margaret or Ray Knox 476 6288 or email raybmarg@xtra.co.nz

Blue Light Halloween Mega Dance Party: for primary school children to be held at the Dunedin Police Station gym on Friday 29 October from 608pm. Entry $2, fancy dress optional.

Sacred Heart School Fair: Saturday 30 October from 11am. Come along and join the fun.
