Dear Parents & Caregivers

Positive Behaviour for Learning
NEV Normal is one of four local school invited by the Ministry of Education to introduce an American behaviour management system into local schools.

The first day of training was yesterday at the regional offices of the Ministry. All of our senior team attended and we were very impressed with what we saw. Mrs Staynes will lead the introduction of this initiative.

This behaviour system started in a very rough school in the States - at that school the principal had an armed guard on hand at all times! - and the approach turned the school around.

The Government has sponsored the introduction of the scheme into NZ schools because of the rise in behaviour problems evident in our schools.

We enjoy pretty good behaviour from most of our children but there is always room for improvement. Parents will be briefed further about how this new system will work in our school. The implementation will take 3 years.

Random Act Of Kindness Day
Today is Random Act of Kindness Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many parents who show our children kindness. Often parents will notice children at school are in need of a warm jacket or some new shoes and the next thing these items turn up. I’ve seen teachers and other staff do the same. Thanks!

I have notices that there are a few families really struggling to make ends meet lately. The school has some strategies in place to help children and families in need so please let us know if we can help.

Ma te Atua e mannaaki tiaki tatau katoa.

Principal

Breakfast – simple, low-cost and healthy!
For a typical person the longest duration of time that passes between meals is from dinner (or that after dinner snack) until breakfast the following morning. Our bodies are like a machine that needs to be refuelled regularly and the more time that passes between meals the less effective our bodies will perform.

Breakfast at home is a healthy, low-cost way to help your children grow strong and be ready to learn. Some simple breakfast options are toast with spreads, cereal such as wheat biscuits with milk or rolled oats/porridge with milk.

To obtain any resources or advice on healthy eating and the importance of breakfast talk to your schools public health nurse.

The Public Health Nurse for our school is:
Julie Buxton. Contact details are: 4769835
