Newsletter 26 May 2010

26 May 2010 Term 2 Week 6 10/15

Dear Parents & Caregivers
Kia ora koutou katoa

School Closure
Many thanks to all parents for the speedy response to the news the school needed to close yesterday.

The problem was that the drainage system could not cope with the extra rain water and the inability of the school sewer to drain into the over stretched street drains. The DCC have been here today and all looks good.

The evacuation of children took nearly 2½hours. Some parents and their back-up people were unable to be contacted. This is a good time to review and update these contacts.

It is important that we have two emergency contact people who live close to the school and who have the availability to collect children. Perhaps one emergency contact could be another school parent. Please pop into the office and check your details with Sara and update if necessary.

Marae Visit
We are off to Puke Te Raki Marae in Karitane next Thursday. Parents are very welcome to accompany us but need to book a seat on the bus before this Friday. Please let Sara know if you wish to travel with us.

The next PTA meeting will be held today Tuesday 15 June at 3.15pm in the Parents Room. All welcome to attend.

Bedtime and Sleeping
Children need a good night’s sleep so that they have enough energy for the next days activities. Sleep is important for our brains as well as our bodies. Children cannot fight colds and viruses when they are tired.

Children may not be a good judge of how much sleep they need, as they may not recognise they are tired. Children of primary school age may require 11 or 12 hours sleep. Suggested bedtimes for 5 to 11 year olds are 7 pm to 8.30 pm. Generally 12 year olds need only 10 hours. A good bedtime routine will help.

If parents are having difficulty with the children’s bedtime routines they can discuss these with the local public health nurse or Plunket nurse.

The NEVN Public Health Nurse is: Julie Buxton.
