23 September 2009 Term 3 Week 10 09/30
Dear Parents & Caregivers

Kia ora koutou katoa
What a busy last few days we are having. The puppet show on Friday was a huge success – congratulations to the talented artists who devised the programme and the performance. Congratulations as well to the teachers and children who worked so hard to make the event a memorable one. It’s great to see children engaging their hearts, minds and bodies in such activity.

On Monday the Malaysian parents provided the staff with lunch to celebrate the end of Ramadan. That too was a colourful and memorable event for those involved. Thanks to the families who made it possible and to Mrs Probert for her excellent work with international families who attend our school.

The Fortune Theatre arrived on Monday afternoon to perform a segment of their current play “The Day my Bum went Psycho”. This performance, predictably, went down well with the senior children!!!

Cross country may go ahead tomorrow depending on the weather – fingers crossed! Then it will be Friday and the end of yet another school term. Thanks to all for a great term and safe travels over the holidays!

Welcome
A warm welcome goes to Jordon who has started in R11 and Liam who has joined R8. We welcome their families to our school community.

Artists in Schools Performance
Friday 18 September ‘Puppet Day’ - the scene was set– time for the show. And what a show it was! The puppets were the stars (or were the children the stars?). It was amazing that so much was accomplished in such at short space of time. As well as the children making the puppets and taking part in the show, they learned so many new skills. All the five Key Competencies that we have been working on in school (Thinking, Managing Self, Relating to Others, Participating and Contributing, Using
Language, Symbols and Texts) were evident during the project. It was also fun!!! We thank Kaitrin, Drew and Anna for their enthusiasm and their expertise.

Keeping Ourselves Safe Parent Meeting
Thank you to those parents and caregivers who attended this meeting on Monday evening. The programme will be taught by the Police Education Officer, John Somerfield and the class teachers during the first two weeks of Term 4. There will be a homework booklet which the children will bring home for discussion with their families about keeping safe.
